What’s the Word

This song is one of four bilingual tracks on the new record. I began writing this song after I accidentally drove through the classic car staging area for the Humboldt Park Puerto Rican Pride Parade in Chicago,” she says. “I felt so much delight seeing everyone waving and smiling to their friends, honking the horns of their immaculate rides. I also feel sad in a way, too, because so many people from Venezuela are coming to the US right now to start over. I think of their children, who might feel at odds with both cultures as they grow up and will have to develop their own sense of pride and community. I wrote this song for them, for us.
